Veterans Day Inspired Cocktails

Victory Cocktail & Poppy Cocktail

Today on Belleza and the Booze we made two Veterans Day inspired cocktails. The Victory Cocktail and the Poppy Cocktail. Lets start with the red cocktail this one is called the Victory Cocktail (I know, it looks more like a poppy). I can honestly say that this cocktail was my least favorite out of the two. Why? Because it contains Absinthe, if you are unfamiliar with Absinthe, go watch Moulin Rouge. Just kidding not that I can say for a fact I do believe that this move brought it more mainstream, along with the green fairy. Anywhoozle… Absinthe is an anise flavored liquor, not familiar with anise, think black licorice. I am not a fan of black licorice, and Absinthe usually overpowers most of the other ingredients in you cocktail. But if you like the black licorice flavor, this cocktail might be perfect for you!

Our Poppy Cocktail is a bit more up my alley. I love botanical forward gins like the Nolet’s Gin I used. This combined with the cream de cacao made for a unique but tasty floral chocolate flavor!

Victory Cocktail

  • 1.5 ounces Pernod (I used Absinthe)

  • 3/4 ounce Grenadine

  • Club Soda to top

How to Craft:

Add Pernod and Grenadine into shaker

add ice an shake till well chilled

pour over fresh ice and top with club soda.

Poppy Cocktail

  • 1.5 oz Gin (I recommend a more floral forward Gin)

  • 3/4 ounces White Cream De Cacao

How to Craft:

Add Gin and White Cream De Cacao to shaker

add ice and shake till well chilled

pour into chilled cocktail glass.
